The Dirt…

The What -

Nearly 10% of our region’s greenhouse gas emissions are caused by landfill emissions - essentially, rotting food waste giving off methane.  Yet that same material - food waste - when sent to a composting facility, becomes much-needed nourishment for soil and ecosystems.

Since 2014, FoodScraps360 has been part of the solution, helping families, farmers and communities to restore balance in climate, ecosystem, and soil health through a simple act: collecting food scraps for composting.

The positive impacts of food scrap diversion are one keystone in a larger transition of our resource economy, away from always-growing volumes of waste, toward resilient, future-facing models of resource management.

A local, woman-owned business, FoodScraps360 works with area composting facilities, commercial and municipal customers. Our commercial scale collection ensures that mid-sized food businesses can comply with food waste diversion laws, while also supporting the development of our region as an anchor in the growing renewable economy.

The How -

At Foodscraps360, we are dedicated to helping everyone change their habit of throwing away foodscraps. Kitchen scraps are not trash, they are FOOD for our Earth. The KEY to reversing climate change is controlling carbon. We can all do that by reducing our food waste and composting what we don't eat. Carbon is an integral part of the cycle of life! It helps plants grow, it feeds the microbes in the earth — making the difference between dirt and nutrient-rich soil. It eliminates the need for fertilizers and pesticides. That makes for healthier air, healthier food, healthier earth and healthier humans.

The Where -

Foodscraps360 is working closely with area municipalities, particularly the towns of Bethlehem, Troy, Albany and Schenectady, to provide an infrastructure for the Capital District to sustainably manage our foodscraps. We are growing under a new partnership, to provide pickup services of foodscraps so that we can all be part of the solution. Please join us. Together we CAN heal the Earth and live healthily ever after.

Diana Wright

Founder, Owner

Native of Fulton County, Diana spent her early years close to woods and rivers, lakes and mountains. Working as a commercial artist, then in real estate, her personal projects are investments in full-circle sustainability models. Her cabin on Great Sacandaga Lake is maintained with solar, food and specialty gardens, composting and bee keeping. FoodScraps360 represents Diana’s commitment to help develop the region’s  commercial sector during the transition of our economic systems, from high carbon to renewable, and from waste disposal to resource management.

Xanthe Plymale

Office Manager

Xanthe spent many childhood summers visiting their grandmother out in West-Central NY and learned a thing or two about working with nature, rather than against it. Xanthe moved to downtown Albany full-time in 2021 to pursue a masters degree in Public Administration and Policy at SUNY Albany, and then they quickly got involved with Zero Waste Capital District and became impassioned about composting as a climate solution. FoodScraps360 is where rubber meets road, providing real infrastructure to the Capital Region, and making sure New York can meet their climate goals.
